Fun(d) raising
June 26, 2008
As the departure date draws nearer I’m finding myself with less free time to keep you lot up-to-date on our shenanigans, so by way of apology here’s some news about the first ever Craic Addicts AGM!
The weekend of June 14th-16th saw all the directors descend upon the Isle of Inis Mor for an all-out massive party! Friday night was a test of my navigation skills as I explored every single road in St. Albans in an attempt to find Lee and Dave. Eventually (more by coincidence than design) we all ended up in the same pub at the same time, so we set up camp there until we were unceremoniously thrown out at closing time. Back to Lee’s for a couple of hours sleep and then up with the birds (4am) to catch a train to the airport.
Despite Lee’s best attempts to lose his passport we all made it through airport control (Lee got through without a full cavity search even though I tried to convince the guard that he was a menace to society), to discover that priority boarding passes on Ryan Air really mean you get to board the plane last! That’ll teach us to pay extra for ‘em!
We were met at Shannon Airport by Bob and Ger, who then loaded us into the trusty Bob-mobile and drove us across Ireland to the ferries after several stops for beer and breakfast (not together, or in that order). Mick caught up to us whilst we were waiting for the ferry and together we all made it across to the island, where we set up camp and then went in search of a bar.
Most of the afternoon and early evening was spent drinking with pirates, but once the pub closed the party got started! Ger had organised a fund-raising concert played by The Wilful in aid of the Island Lifeboats. The Craic Addicts acted as organisers / bouncers / cash-collectors, but fortunately the crowd was extremely well-behaved, requiring no real work at all! The concert raised around 1900 Euro’s for the lifeboats and was enjoyed by everyone (or at least everyone I spoke to). For more pictures from the weekend take a look at the T2Rally photos page.
